Recommended Hotels

The hotel choice on Ko Kut is not huge and the prices are a bit higher compared to other islands. This is also due to the fact that fortunately there is (still) no mass tourism on the island. Here’s a selection of hotels where we have already stayed (except those marked with *).

What to Do and See

Tourism on Ko Kut is not as developed as on other islands in Thailand. This is one of the reasons why we like the island so much. Those who like it quiet and contemplative, prefer to relax during their holidays, read a book, will find on Ko Kut a still largely unspoilt paradise. Those who prefer a lot of activities every day, should better combine the visit of the island with a round trip or something similar. The nightlife is limited to 3-4 bars, but often at 10 p.m. there is already absolute silence

Activities on Ko Kut include:

    • Island sightseeing by scooter (beaches, fishing villages, waterfalls)
    • Trekking in the jungle
    • Kayaking on the Klong Prao River
    • Diving or snorkeling in Koh Chang Marine National Park
    • Fishing
    • Boat trips to the neighbouring islands
    • Rent a Hobycat
    • Thai Massage
    • Watch Sunsets 🙂

Sample travel program

This is just an example. The possibilities are huge and depend on what exactly you have in mind.

Direct flight Thai Airways
Departure from Zurich: Mon, 10 February 2020
Return flight from Bangkok: Mon, 24 February 2020
Duration: 14 days
1 adult

Arrival in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is as early as 6:10 am. If you want to continue your journey by plane to Trat (next airport near to Ko Kut), you have two options: either you take the Bangkok Airways flight at 8:20 or 11:40. For the earlier flight you will have around 2 hours to get your luggage, pass immigration and do the check-in with Bangkok Airways. If you still need to get money from ATM, change money in Bath, buy a local SIM card, etc. it’s better to take the 11:40 flight.

(3’590 THB = ca. 115 CHF)

From the airport Trat there are minibuses (1 hour, 500 THB/15 CHF p.p.) which will take you to the ferry port Laem Sok. There is no need to book in advance.

As an alternative to flying to Trat you can also book a taxi from Suvarnabhumi airport, which will take you directly to the ferry port Laem Sok (5 hours, 5’000 THB/160 CHF). See “Taxi Services” in the section above.

Arrival at the ferry port Laem Sok is then either at about 10:30 am (flight + minibus) or at about 11:30 am (taxi). Flying takes a bit less time, but also costs more. On the other hand, it has to be considered that the Thais have their “own way” to drive a car and 5 hours can be long.

At the harbour in Laem Sok you have the following ferries to choose from:

o Ko Kut Express 10:30 / 11:30 (500 THB/15 CHF) *** too close ***
o Koh Kood Princess 12:30 / 13:30 (350 THB/10 CHF)
o Ko Kut Express 13:00 / 14:00 (500 THB/15 CHF)
o Boonsiri Fantasea Catamaran (via Koh Mak) 14:20 / 16:00 (500 THB/15 CHF)
o Ko Kut Express Speedboat 15:00 / 16:00 (600 THB/19 CHF)

Prices are per person. Tickets for the ferry do not have to be reserved in advance. If you miss a ferry, you simply take the next one. Reserved tickets would expire.

We usually take the “Ko Kut Express” boat at 13:00. So you would be at the hotel at about 14:30.

On the way home you can also plan 2-3 days sightseeing in Bangkok. The return journey from Ko Kut to Bangkok can easily be arranged 2 days in advance from the island. Unless you want to fly to Bangkok, then you should at least book the flight tickets in advance.

Important: if you want to travel to the island from Bangkok on your arrival day, your flight must not arrive later than 9:00 am in Bangkok!
